The villages of irente and yogoi primary school in lushoto lack adequate water and sanitation facilities as well as hygiene awareness. This leads to increased disease transmission and additional burdens on poor families. Green Land Group is addressing these issues with sanitation and awareness - Help!
There is a high illiteracy rate in lushoto and yogoi villages in lushoto district of in state,of Tanga. Due to lack of education and knowledge, unhygienic practices are common. In addition, the sanitary facilities are not sufficient. This means that communicable diseases (such as viral infections) can spread quickly. The local government provides free education and mid-day meals to poor children, but no education on hygiene practices is provided. Therefore, there is not enough to reach us.
The Green Land Group (GLG) aims to address these issues by improving existing 4 sanitation facilities and through awareness-raising activities. After a detailed study, two villages, IRENTE and YOGOI JUU, were selected as the locations for implementation of this project. Village communities, affected school staff and 500 school children should be educated about water-related diseases, the benefits of pure drinking water and the use of safe WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) during project .
Healthy School Environment As part of this project, our work will install a water purifier and set up washing and drinking areas in a 5 school. Our team, together with the school staff, will train the 500 children in how to use the new facilities and form a water management committee with them. Phase 2: Clean drinking water for irente village The water in irente will contains fluoride. Many people buy their drinking water daily from water tanks, which cost around $ 25 per tank.
