Bring Clean Water & Education to 2,000 in Cambodia

by PLANET WATER FOUNDATION
Vetted

443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related illness.

You can change this.

You already did change this for over 1,000 people in Taek Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia through the installation of an AquaTower and Planet Water’s hygiene education program at Taek Primary School.

Here is how school Headmaster talks about the impact that having clean water and hygiene education has made in his school, “My school had no clean water, I tried to make aware of unsafe water to the students, and some bring boiled water to school. The students faced waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid… and spent a lot of money for caring. Now we have clean water system in the school, my students drink clean water and our school attendance improved and the tower is our school hand washing station so students wash their hands before they go into their class rooms.”

For the children at Taek Primary School, having access to clean, safe water for the first time means hope for a healthy future.

Thank you - YOU have made a difference in the lives of those in need. Please continue to give the gift of water – and spread the word – because together, we can continue to abolish water poverty…one community at a time!

Up to 4 out of 10 schools and healthcare facilities lack basic water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in many parts of the developing world.

You can change this.

You already did change this for over 1,000 people in Taek Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia through the installation of an AquaTower and Planet Water’s hygiene education program at Taek Primary School.

Here is how the Leader of the School Support Committee describes the impact YOU have made, “Before, only 35% of local residents had access to safe water. The other people drank untreated water sources that they think is clean when it is clear. Some wells and ponds are not year-round water sources due to drought; therefore, people were forced to seek other water sources from long distant travelling. Having the Aqua Tower installed here is so helpful to everyone. Students now drink safe water, improve their class attendance and positively impact to their studying.”

For the children at Taek Primary School, having access to clean, safe water for the first time means a healthier future, improved education and more happiness.

Thank you - YOU have made a difference in the lives of those in need. Please continue to give the gift of water – and spread the word – because together, we can continue to abolish water poverty…one community at a time!

You CAN, and DID, make a difference...

No one should have to:

  • Drink from a river, lake, or stream
  • Spend their day collecting water instead of getting an education
  • Suffer from easily preventable waterborne illness
  • Miss school due to chronic diarrhea caused by drinking unsafe water
  • Lack access to clean, safe water

You can change this. You already did change this for over 1,000 people in Taek Village in Siem Reap, Cambodia! While recently visiting Taek Village, it was clear to see the transformation that has taken place over the last 16 months since the AquaTower has been deployed. It was great to see the students running to the AquaTower – some to fill their water bottles, and others to wash their hands.  As the school was dismissing for the day, you could see the parents carrying in their jugs to fill with clean, safe water to bring home to their families. For those living in Taek Village, having access to clean, safe water for the first time means that over 1,000 children and their families have hope and opportunity for a healthier future.

While on a recent sustainability visit to Taek Village, a local resident who was sitting outside enjoying a glass of clean, safe water from the AquaTower with his wife and two children explained to us, “Clean water has now become our family partner. It saves us time and money - I collect water from this tower 2-3 times per week. We are no longer boiling water and have no more diarrhea caused by drinking dirty water like in the past. I feel convenient and enjoyable in collecting water from here. For more than two years I know that I have saved time and money that I previously spent and I cannot forget to say great thanks to the Global Giving donors for bringing clean water to my village.”

Thanks to you, providing communities with access to clean water through the installation of AquaTowers has allowed for more time to be spent at school and less time home sick. This also means that you have enabled young children and women to spend their days getting an education, and therefore helping to create economic prosperity in their communities, instead of collecting water for hours each day.

Here is the impact you have made on an eleven year old student, “Nowadays I have enough clean water to drink and keep my hands clean because of the water tower in the school. I really like this water tower because it supports my study here. I could not be free from diarrhea or fill my drinking bottle to bring home if I was without this tower. Now I well understand about the importance of clean water and all my friends feel the same as well.”

I never stop being amazed at the continued generosity and support of you, our donors, in providing those in need with one of life’s basic necessities – clean, safe water.  Thank you for being an important part of the solution in abolishing water poverty…one community at a time!

For more than a year, we have been seeing the impact you have helped us make through providing clean water and hygiene education to nearly 2,000 children and their families in Taek Village. When recently visiting the AquaTower, the Village Leader explained, "Before the AquaTower, the school had no clean water. I tried to make aware of unsafe water to the students, some bring boiled water to school. The students faced waterborne diseases such as diarrhea and typhoid and spent a lot of money for caring. Now we have clean water system in the school, and students drink clean water and school attendance has improved. The tower has become our school hand washing station so students can wash their hands before they go into their class rooms."

Thank you - YOU have helped us reach nearly 80% of our goal! We are still fundraising to provide clean water and hygiene education to the nearby community of Chey, where having access to clean water is still a dream. Please continue to give the gift of water – and spread the word – because together, we can also find out what having clean, safe water means to Chey Village...
