Almost three years ago Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES) embarked on a progect to build two classrooms, an office and a library. Today, the building is fully functional with a library which also doubles as a classroom, two other classrooms and two offices. Our shelves have filled with books, we have audio visual equipment and enough laptops for one class.

So, the time has come to close this project so funds can be channeled to our more current projects.  We would love for you to continue to support our efforts through another project.  We now have two projects which go directly to funding children to attend ACES.  Your funds will go directly to a child who needs sponsorship.  If you desire, we will even send you a picture of the child you are sponsoring and keep you informed of the child's progress.

We want to thank everyone for everything they have done to support ACES in the past and look forward to you continued support in the future. Without people like yourself ACES would not exist, so thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kind generousity.

Once upon a time we started a Library and Classroom Project....this is not a fairytale, it is a reality! When we began this project we set a goal of $12,500.00 to help with the generous donations we had already recieved to build the necessary building which would house our library and two additional classrooms.  Today, we are only $305.00 from reaching that projected goal.

The classrooms and the library are fully functional, as a matter of fact the library is doing double duty as it is currently also being used as a classroom due to our continued growth.  This month, we were fortunate enough to have volunteers provided by the Red Cross who took days of dedicated effort to set up the library with the Dewey Decimal System!  Now, we are a fully functional library.  We have programed all our books into our computer system and currently we have almost 1400 titles on our shelves.

With the start of the new school year in September, we will staff the library with a teacher who will double as a librarian. Our students will be issued student ID's, which will double as their library card, so they can check out books as resouces and for fun and pleasure.  Our new friends, the volunteers who have helped so much this month, have also promised to go home and start a book drive to expand our selection of books.

Without people like you and the volunteers who have helped so much, Ambergris Caye Elementary School would not exist.  We are a reflection of the generousity in people's hearts.  We thank you all so much for your donations and we hope you continue to support our efforts.  With our new projects like "Send a Child to School" you can become more involved and even get to know the students you support.  Please check out our Global Giving page and set something up today to make a better future for a child who would otherwise not have the option of a quality education.

The future looks brighter because of you.  Our library is a reality and as we continue to grow we are looking toward adding more technology in the form of computers and audio visual equipment to help enhance the children's learning experience. We have grown so much in the last two years our library now doubles as a classroom.  With the completion of this project close at hand there are visions for the future.

A project proposal has just been drawn up for a multi-purpose room where the children will be able to dance, do aerobics, put on plays, shoot basketball and it will also double as a lunchroom.  We continue to grow as a school and now have 94 students with projected enrollment of 125 for next school year.

Thanks to projects like the library/classroom project we are thriving and our students our flourishing. We are a child friendly school which provides the necessary environment and strategies for students to feel safe where they can learn and grow.  We appreciate everyone's support in our efforts. We hope you continue to contribute and get involved with our school. You can even meet our students through our sponsorship program.  We look forward to a long partnership with our sponsors in the future.

As the year comes to a close we are happy to say things at AmbergrisCaye Elementary School continue to progress. The Library Classroom project has been a complete success and we are beginning to plan for next year and are seeing the need for expansion once again.  As we grow and our student body increases it is apparent we need yet another classroom.

This time the classroom will be because of growth due to the addition of a Special Needs classroom.  Currently, we have taken on an additional teacher to work with children with "Special Needs".  Since Spetember Sarah Freudenberg has tried to work within the current structure. However, it was more than apparent she and these children needed their own space. So, once again we blended two of our smaller classrooms to make space for children who just learn differently.

Currently, we have three students with autism, one with a processing disorder and others who just need a little remedial work.  The philosophy at Ambergris Caye Elementary school is one that is child focused.  We believe that in order for every child to reach their highest potential they need one on one attention.  Our Special Needs Program is doing just that for these children.

Now, however, we need another classroom to give the space back to the classes we had to blend.  Running a school is an ever evolving process.  I hope you find it in your heat this Holiday season to help us grow our little school, yet again, to provide children in San Pedro, Belize with an education and loving environment second to none. Thanking you in advance for your generosity.  Happy Holidays!

Our library is up and running and we continue to fill the shelves.  As we continue to grow at Ambergris Caye Elementary School we find new ways to utilize our library. This year our library is also hosting a Standard III class of students as we have grown beyond the capacity of our classrooms.  So, for those of you who have donated to our library, your money is doing double duty!

Our student body now consists of 93 students and we can proudly say there are no more blended classrooms.  Every grade has its own room, even though we are having to use the library as one of the classrooms.  Still, the shelves are filling to capacity and students from other classes are able to come to the library during breaks, lunches and before and after school to use the facility as a library.

We are growing and are looking for more opportunities to serve the children of San Pedro.  Look for our new project on our Global Giving site which will allow you to help send a child to school!  There is no better cause than the education of a child, help build a brighter tomorrow!  Give now!
