For children to do well in class they need a favorable learning and teaching environment. They need basic equipment such as classroom furniture so that they can produce neat work. The children at Samahuru High School in Tsholotsho District, Zimbabwe are in dire need of classroom so that they are able to operate in a clean and safe learning environment.
The community gets its living through agricultural activities. Unfortunately, the rains in that area are quite erratic and as such the parents get enough just to feed themselves and their children. They do not get any surplus to sell so that they could use the income towards developing their school's infrastructure. Consequently the school is underequipped resulting in the majority of the children having to sit on dirty floors in class or crowding on the few benches available.
This project will there solve the classroom furniture crisis currently prevailing in the school. Through this project the children's quality of work will certainly improve. They will be able to produce neat written work. The children's school textbooks will also last longer as they won't be dragged on the dirty floors anymore. Last but not least, both the children and the teachers morale will improve a graet deal.
Through the provision of this equipment the whole community will develop a keener interest in their children's school. The parents will value education more. This has far reaching impact in the long run in the community. The school attendance is also expected to improve as children will feel eager to want to come to school regularly. An entire community of 1000 families will benefit from this project.
