This project will improve health outcomes for children in Venezuela - providing care and resources to a generation growing up in one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world. By working with local, community-led partners, we will reduce malnutrition (through nutritional recovery programmes and school meals), improve community health (through provision of WASH infrastructure and community medical provision), and provide resources (such as wheelchairs and hospital equipment).
Venezuela's healthcare system is stretched to its limits, with dire shortages of resources, infrastructure and healthcare workers. The systematic collapse of the country's public services has caused extreme rates of malnutrition, the return of vaccine-preventable diseases, and expanding epidemics associated with declines in basic public health services. Some of the most vulnerable and disproportionately affected in this health crisisarechildren.
We will provide our local partners with resources and knowledge to continue improving health outcomes for children. The complexity of the health crisis requires a wide approach, so we work with a range of programmes: from soup kitchens and nutritional recovery programmes, to rural medical missions and wheelchair provisioning projects. We also build the capacity of these partners - working closely with them and providing infrastructure, like WASH, to make their operations more effective and safe.
Children's health has a direct effect on their development, ability to learn, and happiness - and a lasting impact on their future. Beyond the immediate reduction in suffering, this project also contributes to improving outcomes in the long term, lifting communities out of poverty and providing opportunities. By building the capacity of healthcare programmes, we invest in the long-term infrastructure of Venezuela, giving our partners tools to help children more efficiently and effectively.
