Chemo Pal Spencer and Brandon
A long hospital stay can be lonely and isolating for a teenager. Having a true friend by your bedside can make a world of difference.
15-year-old Brandon found that friend when he met his Chemo Pal Mentor, Spencer.
Through his most recent 100+ days spent in the hospital healing from a bone marrow transplant, Brandon and Spencer have become fast friends, challenging each other to many games of chess – often with Brandon emerging as the champion!
Thanks to supporters like you, our award-winning Chemo Pal® Mentor Program can give kids a dependable, caring friend to lean on, and parents a much-needed break to grab a cup of coffee, take a nap, or spend time with their other children. Our dedicated volunteers become a part of the child’s life and spend time with them in the hospital, and even at home.
Last year, CCA’s Chemo Pal program served 259 families, a 22% increase from the previous year, and was named Oregon Mentor’s Exceptional Mentoring Program of the Year
With your support we can match even more seriously ill children and teens one-to-one with compassionate adults who offer supportive relationships throughout their chemotherapy or other treatments.
