Since the inception of the Project, MYSA Kids With diasbility have been able to have an impact in 16 MYSA operation areas.
With a diverse nuumber of trained members from all over the Mathare slums and neighbouring areas, the project have so far within six months of operation reached 129 female participants and 214 male and other members which brings the number to 314 participants. In addition, 15 special school teachers, 276 school children and 38 out-of school children participated.
A total number of 27 trained coaches 2 instructors and 96 care takers participated in recreation and outreach programmes.
One of the major benefits was that the participating children with disabilities realized that they have the right to enjoy equal opportunities/rights (in sport) as their able bodied peers. Also community members who often stopped while passing the place of activities got to see that these children also have different abilities, rather than only disabilities and many of them were interested (and some even wanted to be part of the project as volunteer).
In the volunteers workshop 12 out of 27 participants were women who tirelessly work to develop the project during weekly recreation and outreach activities. In addition, out of the 12, four are women with physical disabilities. In the Kids with disabilities council 4 out of 8 members are women. 6 female teachers and 129 female athletes have participated in the KWD activities.
