www.karkinaki.gr is the first and so far only portal in Greece with information on childhood cancer and the everyday life of families of children and adolescents with cancer. Through Karkinaki.gr the non-profit organization KARKINAKI not only informs the public in Greece on childhood cancer and raises awareness on this issue, but also motivates people in our country to actively support the children and their families through innovative actions such as the survival kit.
Almost one child or adolescent is diagnosed with some kind of cancer every day in Greece, more than 300 every year, therefore it is important to further develop and strengthen the presence of the only portal on childhood cancer in our country and spread the message of how everybody can help the sick children and their families.
By redesigning karkinaki.gr, making it more interactive compatible with new technologies, more modern and up-to-date and by strengthen its content through collaborations with reliable and valid editors we will be able to provide the information and the support to the families fighting cancer.
A well informed patient (and/or care giver) is a patient who can better respond to the challenges of a therapy and better collaborate with doctors and nurses. On the other hand a society well-informed and aware of childhood and adolescence cancer can stand by the patients and their families in their efforts to have access to better health services and more effective therapies and at the same time help them with everyday needs such as blood giving, bone marrow donation, psychological support etc.
