Best of Luck....
Best of Luck....

We all fall in our life, but then it becomes a learning experience for us to move forward in life. Working with vulnerable children have helped us learn their life stories. I would like to take your focus to the children/ Juveniles who for some or the other reasons violated the Indian Penal Code. In India these Children as per Juvenile Justice Act 2000 are called Juvenile with conflict with law (JCL) which are kept under observation to improve their behaviour.
CSA is also associated with one such home where we studied the reason behind children violating the Indian Penal Code. The prominent reason we found was Poverty, unemployment and all related circumstances. Along with the counseling efforts, we had to come up with some practical solution for the betterment of their life.

To let these children move forward it was very necessary that they get some income generating skills. Therefore CSA introduced short term Vocational Courses. We successfully done with an auto mobile course last quarter and helped children understand that money can be earned through respectable manner also. This batch's children motivated the other in-mates in such a way that they themself came to CSA for nomination for the next course. This time we had 11 children who showed willingness to go for Electrician course. The course stared in the month of August with 80% practicals and handling of electrical Equipments.
Children attended the course and completed it successfully their Job placement interviews are also due now and hopefully they will get jobs and will move forward in their life.CSA wishes best of luck to all these aspiring Youths of India.

May and June are the most loved months In India by all the children!!! The reason is these are regarded as summer vacation i.e. "No school, No studies, No Homework, No tuitions ".

Children have plans for summer camp, enjoyment, Movies, outing and many more.....

Bbut this not the case with the children who are admitted in care home for some or the other reasons. Children have very less opportunities to enjoy in the compound wall of child care institutions.

CSA as every year have planned many activities in this summer vacation to make most out of it. Children were taken to Adventure Sports park. Where they enjoyed doing rock climbing, Trekking, Rope climbing, Rain dance, Swimming etc. this visit was the most memorable for many kids as most of them had seen these type of activities first time in their life. More over the cheerful atmosphere and the delicious lunch made them feel top of the world.

Some fungames like Musical chairs, Passing the parcel, singing and dancing were well received by all the children.
Not only this but some other fun loving activities like art and craft sessions, Cake and Ice cream making, Movie Screening filled the summer vacation with lots of colorful joy. Children are provided with in door play equipments.

Instead of thinking what the other fortunate children are doing, children associated with CSA also had a fun filled summer vacation with a big smile on their face. This has filled CSA team with immense pleasure.

A big THANKS to all our well wishers, donors and supporters like you, who makes this possible......

Improvement in Children understanding....
Improvement in Children understanding....

We are glad to tell you about our project to define educational module for CCI (Child Care Institute). Since June 2014 CSA has been introducing with the pilot project at 2 States in india for 3 different CCI. The Aim of this project is to improve the academic performance and overcoming the inferiority complex of the child as far as the education is concerned. We have come up with sessions on Life Skill Training as per WHO (World Health Organization). Once it is successful in the 3 CCI we will be implementing it to all the 50 CCI, CSA is associated with.

As Per RTE (Right to Education) we introduce the Continuous and Comprehension Evaluation (CCE) as per the method teachers makes a plan & shares it with their fellow teachers. The Concept’s ( a particular topic) effectiveness for interactive teaching is then discussed to make it successful. To make it more effective in classroom a mind map (understanding of the child before introducing the topic) is prepared. This Mind Map helps the teacher to target the proper method as per the understanding or the misunderstanding of that particular child. The method then is implemented in Class and then the post learning assessment is done to compare with the Mind map.

Therefore Each of the 3 CCI children have gone through 11 sessions of Life skill training which covers Self Awareness, Collaborative work, Critical thinking, Decision Making, Communication Etc. Alongside Quarterly Teachers training is arranged who are directly involved in teaching of the children in CCI, to introduce interactive teaching, Activity based teaching and Print rich environment in class room. At the end of the year the assessment of the subject Language and Mathematics has shown conceptual learning levels have increased in this academic year. Teacher’s feedback is more oriented towards the children and more observations of the children are noticed and recorded. CSA have observed a grate level of improvement in the method of teaching, which is the core target of teachers training. More of Action songs, ice-breaking sessions are introduced in class to create fear free/Friendly environment in the class. This technique have helped the child to realize the dreams, and channelized the thinking to achieve these dreams, along with self confidence to cope up with the team. CSA has high hopes that it will be as successful as Pilot Project, in all other CCI’s associated with CSA.

There are some stories you hear that just make you sick to the pit of your stomach and at the same time, marvel at the wonders of God’s miracles. This story is one of them.

It would be hard, almost impossible, to understand what must have been running through the mind of the children or the circumstances that could have led him or her to take such a Action. We are here today to talk about the children who have taken an extreme step to violate Indian Penal Code. Yes I am talking about the Juveniles in Conflict with Law. They are known as JCL in India. As per Juvenile Justice Act they are bought in front of Juvenile Justice Board where they go through hearing and then are asked to stay under observation in the observation Home/ Certified home. CSA have come across with one such home, we were requested to work with this home as there are very few organization who attempt to work for JCL. With lots of apprehension we started understanding the children and the atmosphere provided to them when they are in house. Very soon we could make out that after coming from a traumatic condition their stay in the home too is not very soothing. Emotional ups and downs new atmosphere and nothing to do other than watching T.V. was the routine for the young boys of the age between 16 to 18 yrs.
We therefore came forward to offer a counselor who understands talks and help the children through right path. Thus there was some relief for the children and they started sharing their likes and dislikes. CSA counselor also assessed that children are more interested in Technical related and farming related work. Therefore we introduced 3 trades (Mobile repairing, Electricals and Two wheeler repairing) to 20 boys. 10 kids out of 20 showed there interest in doing Two wheeler repairing course and enrolled their names for the course. Two wheeler repairing course started from 22nd Jan. 2015. The course duration is for 1.5 month for 4 hours a day. The course will give them job placements after completion which hopefully will avoid them getting in to criminal activities again. On the other hand farming of vegetable and computer class for the kids is also progressing. With lots of apprehensions this is our baby step to help the kids to avoid the path they choose in past and have a better future.

Global Hand washing day
Global Hand washing day

Last year in the month of Oct. 2013 CSA made a mark to create awareness about hand washing by showing them Presentation for the reasons to wash hands, time when they need to wash their hands and the effects of clean hands. After the presentation CSA representative took them to wash place to do the practices of hand washing with the steps and this was a well received awareness program.
This year too CSA decided to grab the opportunity of Global hand washing day and made a behavior change intervention in the life of 1800+ orphan children across 30 + orphanages in four different states (Maharashtra, Goa, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh). We improved the health and hygiene of these 1800+ children by inculcating hand washing with soap practice among them. The message this time was passed on to the children by older children to younger ones. Older children took the initiative to prepare a skit on hand washing awareness under CSA representatives mentoring and presented it for the younger ones. Each older child took the responsibility of the younger ones to wash their hands with the steps they learned.
Children from different CSA locations participated in the Global Hand Washing Day celebrations. Personal hygiene kit containing soap, tooth paste, tooth brush is given to the children through CSA.
Thus we assured that they understand and follow the massage and idea of celebrating Global hand washing day and keep themselves healthy.
