This project will build a multi-purpose centre that will house AfterSchool Programs for 1000 orphaned and vulnerable children in rural Valley of a 1000 Hills, SA. We run programs in 9 under-resourced schools which diminishes the impact of our work - we need vehicles and education resources. The centre will incl. a Resource Centre, site for HomeWork assistance, Maths, Science and English Tutorials, a kitchen for daily nutritional meals, medical and counselling rooms.
Qadi Nyuswa is a densely populated poor community of approx 300k. It has very limited educational support facilities and no recreational facilities thus unable to provide education and social interventions that assists children to see a future beyond high school. More than 60% of the children in schools have been affected by HIV/ AIDS and about 70% have absent fathers. Our vision is to nurture the dreams of at least 1000 of these children through our holistic Programs
We offer scholarships -30; AfterSchool Program - Homework Assist, Maths, Science and English Tutoring, Personal and Career Development, Weekend and Holiday Programs - 230 children in 9 schools. Our limited resources hamper our ability to assist children holistically and reach out to more needy and vulnerable children. The Centre will allow us to house all programs under one roof with suitable resources. The 1000 children will be leaders and share information with peers who are not benefiaciries
HIV/AIDS almost wiped out a generation in this community in the 90s- most children are being raised by grandparents. With ARV Treatment, the younger children have mothers but generally absent fathers. This project will create Hope and Career Dreams for +/-1000 children (who generally did not believe they had a bright future beyond High School). It will therefore lower the risk for teenage pregnancy, new HIV infections, drug use and crime; lessen the burden of reliance on government grants.
