Change 30 Lives through Music in West Adams

by Blue Violin Foundation

Summary

This project will help build an instrument library for students in the underserved community of West Adams in Los Angeles. Students want to learn to play the violin and piano, but many need assistance with purchasing method books, tuition costs, and even an instrument to participate! All children deserve the opportunity to learn music, and The Blue Violin Foundation is committed to making the arts accessible to all communities! We strive to close the gap of exposure to classical music.

Challenge

Communities are often challenged with a lack of music programs for youth. As students fail to be introduced to music, they are also unknowingly falling behind in critical thinking skills, self-discipline, math skills, and self-confidence. Participation in music programs hinge on being able to afford an instrument and pay for lessons. Diverse people of color make up only 4% of symphony orchestras nationwide.

Solution

Through expansion into Los Angeles, we will provide violin and piano training to 30 students at 1/3 the cost of competitor's rates so that students will have a greater chance of gaining access to music. We also welcome all students to start beginner training at any age, while many programs have restrictive guidelines regarding beginner student ages. We will provide training workshops for parents and teachers in order to maintain our mission in a positive and nurturing learning environment.

Long-Term Impact

We will educate and train 30 students, allowing them to rise to the level of ultimate success with music. Students will have the opportunity to earn college scholarships, enter our junior teacher training program, earn community service hours, and work for the company as an intern or an teaching assistant! Students will learn elements of financial education, business promotion, marketing tools, social media strategies, and teaching tools to use in future professions.
