Reducing transmission of HIV and TB through community development, health services and prevention and education, empowering and enabling improving the quality of people's lives. In 2016 / 2017, Sahara identified and tested 4112 for HIV, 2550 tested HIV positive, 2257 on ART. 2319 tested for TB, 695 on TB Treatment. Follow-up showed 95% adherence. To scale up with your support, Sahara's tried and tested model @ $ 3 per person, will provide 7000 people with treatment, care & support.
The poor cannot afford the cost, the distance and the travel time it takes to test for HIV and TB. Public Health services are too far away, and accessibility is a challenge. The environment is intimidating for people with low literacy levels and most being daily wagers, living below the poverty line are unable to take leave to access public health services. Sahara mentors the community on navigating the public health services.
Sahara's will take its test-and-treat model to most-at-risk communities, health camps where people will be encouraged to test for HIV and for TB. On-site testing for HIV and screening people for TB symptoms. Early detection will mean reduction of morbidity; infection control and negative socio-economic impact are diluted. Mentoring, Outreach and follow up will ensure that post detection patient diagnosed with HIV and TB will be supported through their treatments
There will be marked a reduction in HIV and TB-related deaths and with good health, those in their economically productive years can raise the quality of their lives and the lives of their families. Mentorship and education will result in community strengthening and greater inter-dependence. Community empowerment through health will also result in socio-economic growth on a sustainable scale.
