This project will build 60 chairs and desks providing adequate seating to 60 children with special needs attending schools in rural and remote Jamaica.
A 2016 statistical report from the Jamaica Ministry of Education estimates that Jamaican schools need more than 35,000 chairs and desks. A shortage of chairs causes chaos in Jamaica schools. Some schools reject students because they don't have enough seating or space while in other schools, students must fight for chairs. Although there have been significant advances in education in Jamaica, underprivileged children in rural and poor areas suffer from unequal access to quality education.
The lack of chairs and proper classroom environment is inhibiting learning in Jamaica schools. For One Child generates new jobs by training young people to design and manufacture quality classroom chairs and create positive and thriving learning environments for tens of thousands of schoolchildren. We also provide a platform for volunteers to use as a way of giving back to their community and helping these kids as well.
This project will equipped 60 students with special needs with strong and sturdy desks and chairs. These kids will be able to excel in classrooms without hindrance, pursue their passion and empowered to find new opportunities for a brighter future
