Dear CCEdFund Family:
August is here and that means the new school year is just around the corner! A new school year is a new beginning for CCEdFund's students. Thank you so much for helping them have that new start. So far this year, your support provided two more students, Sokha and Kuch, with scholarships to attend one of the best schools in Phnom Penh. They are thrilled to go to school soon, and they have been preparing all summer.
We are very excited to keep you updated with their progress as the year passes. Since we last wrote to you, the girls took entrance exams for their grade levels. Sokha, who will be in seventh grade, scored well enough on the exam to receive a reduced tuition rate through the school's partial scholarship program! Kuch will be in eighth grade and finished her final exams with flying colors. Both students have spent most of the summer doing additional preparation to be able to charge ahead with their studies in the fall. They each had study groups with classmates and studied English with extra tutors.
Recently, when we were in Cambodia to meet with our students, schools, and partner NGOs, we learned that our students' academic and personal success requires support beyond scholarships at an exceptional schools. Our students need the opportunity to build both substantive knowledge and language skills before and during their time at our partner school. So, this school year, CCEdFund will send more than 14 new students to schools that will prepare them to attend an exceptional school in the future. With substantially lower tuition and an emphasis on catching up students who have not had access to formal education, these schools will be opportunities for more students to attend school with your support. CCEdFund will more than triple the number of scholarship recipients through this new program.
There are three students, Channa, Tony, and Sreyheng, who we hope to help go to school in a month in Phnom Penh. Their tuition would be 15% of the cost of our current partner school and would prepare these ambitious students for attendance at our partner school in the future. With your continued support, we can reach more impoverished students in Cambodia and provide them with meaningful educational opportunities.
With each new scholarship, you are helping to rebuild a class of leaders in Cambodia. Thank you so much for your support, and we'll be in touch soon!
Warmly, Carrie & Jennifer
