The project will enable people living with HIV (PLHIV) access treatment, care & support. Social stigma, lack of awareness, and poor socio-economic condition are some of the barriers to treatment. In the absence of follow up & counselling, adherence to treatment rate remains very low. There is a visible gap in linking PLHIV to social welfare schemes and other mainstreaming activities to further empower them. Our programme addresses these gaps to improve the overall quality of life for PLHIV.
India has 2.1 million HIV positive people and more than half of them are not covered by Antiretroviral Therapy, the treatment for HIV/AIDS. As a country we have made a huge progress in the last decade, however, our efforts are in danger of dissipating unless they are sustained. More than 69,110 people lost their lives from AIDS-related illnesses across the country in 2017. Our 310 Care & Support Centers across India got 5,24,688 HIV+ dropouts back into the HIV (ART) treatment services.
Our interventions are poised towards Prevention, Care and Empowerment. The intent is to prevent transmission of HIV so that there are zero new cases. Educate people living with HIV/AIDS about available treatment, ensuring access to care, and improving their well-being. To empower vulnerable and affected communities by teaching vocational skills, supporting access to income generation opportunities, and linking them to social welfare schemes.
Improved health and longevity of life for individuals and families living with HIV, attitudinal and behavioral change of the communities as a result of sensitization and leveling up of the various inequalities and divides to make a society conducive for individuals living with HIV. Our bold vision is to end AIDS in India by 2030 and to eventually build healthier communities in India. We are striving for zero-new infection, zero-AIDS related deaths, and zero cases of discrimination.
