This project works towards the UNSDGs by giving locals the opportunity to increase their capacity in the field of education. Providing an opportunity for local English teachers to practice their skills and learn about TEFL style teaching methods will have a larger effect on the community as a whole, with the idea that increasing access to education for all peoples regardless of gender, ethnicity or age, will increase future opportunities of employment & reduce inequalities & poverty.
Locals looking to enter the teaching field have little opportunity to get practical experience, while also receiving a salary to provide for themselves. Also the quality of education in Laos is very low. Trained English teachers may have little more than basic English, and this reduces the quality of lessons for future generations of students. Improving the quality of English education improves access to general knowledge or subjects that are otherwise inaccessible in any of the local languages.
This program would help train and support local leaders, & increase their access to future employment opportunities through skills development and practical experience. The internship will last 3-6 months, and interns will have the opportunity to learn about TEFL style teaching and gain practical experience in the classroom. Those who do not qualify for the 6 month internship may apply for a 3 month National Scholar position, focusing more on training and introduction to teaching.
To increase Interns' opportunities in & outside the classroom and to build their vocational skills through training and real world experience, increase the number of TEFL trained local teachers. This will help increase the quality of the education by increasing the capacity of the local teachers, as well as increase local students access to information by increasing practical skills in an internationally used language.
