California Wildfire Relief Fund

California Wildfire Relief Fund

Summary

California is facing another severe wildfire crisis, with more than a dozen active fires burning thousands of acres and threatening entire towns. Two people were killed and one injured in the fast-moving Fairview Fire. All donations to this fund will support wildfire relief and recovery efforts in California. Your donation will go to vetted nonprofits providing food, water, and shelter. This fund will remain open through fire season and beyond to support the most impacted communities.

Challenge

Californians now battle wildfires on an ongoing basis, with communities facing loss of life and mass destruction of property. People from low-income, rural, and marginalized communities have less access to support, which means they also tend to bear the brunt of the long-term impact. Local nonprofits also tend to be overlooked and underfunded.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support wildfire relief and recovery efforts in California. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, we will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted area(s), particularly those working with low-income, historically underserved communities.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

When you donate to GlobalGiving's California Wildfire Relief Fund, your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food and emergency medical supplies to people and animals
  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families
  • Provide support to frontline workers, like meal cards for firefighters
  • Meet other needs that emerge

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
