As a way of uplifting the livelihood of the rural youth, the organisation intends to construct a piggery incubation breeding scheme in Malawi, Chiradzulu District. The scheme will be used to raise sows, fatten and multiply. After multiplication the organisation will be distributing the sows to rural youth as a a bussiness startup capital. This will run as income generating initiative for the youth to change their livelihood status.
Youth unemployment and underemployment remains a challenge for the country, especially for the youths seeking full-time, productive and decent employment opportunity. Underemployment is especially prevalent in the rural area especially agricultural sector resulting in high working poverty which stands at 74% (FAO 2014). Youth exodus out of rural areas also means exist from agriculture. It actually entails that the golden opportunity that lies behind agriculture is not been fully embraced.
Through the scheme, the organisation will engage the targeted youth in bussiness capacity building, agribusiness skill impartation, market linkage and strategic partnership with key stakeholders. This is aimed at empowering the youth to practically be engaged in agribusiness across the whole value chains After benefiting youth multiply and fatten their pigs, the organisation will explore potential markets where they can sale their reproduce. As such youth will be economically stable.
Through the youth empowerment, with pigs as a bussiness startup, unemployment rate will be reduced. There will be a sense of awareness for the youth towards sustainable agriculture production and reorganise and strengthen the interest of youth in agribusiness. The project will further engagement of youth in agriculture as a source of employment and wealth creation capable of providing career fulfilment. There will be community empowerment as such a platform for knowledge & experience sharing
