We all hear about the necessity of mentoring. And most of us have already benefited from someone guiding us properly. Your help will assist youth and young adults meet and create relationships with mentors that care. We are solving the problem with a mentoring program. Our program will serve African american males ages 8-28. The program will provide leadership training, one to one, group and peer mentoring along with group outing and volunteering events. Our program is a mental health based.
We all here the news of disenfranchised youth, and we all see the rising statistics and news stories of crime involving young men. These young men face many challenges due to poverty and other factors. we are all affected in some way from prices of insurance going up to higher security measures not to mention the mental stress and fear placed on society. Our program intends to ultimately benefit "ALL" but one individual or group at a time. We plan to mentor youth and build their esteem.
In order to equip the participants, we intend to provide necessary tools: such as training, guidance and opportunity for leadership experience along with volunteer opportunities. Without the proper tools we realize it is harder for individual and leaders to accomplish goals. We feel these tools are import and will include training. These training's will include conflict resolution, diversity awareness, communications skills and understanding multiple intelligence and the Hierarchy of needs.
The statistics for mentoring are still coming in but all data points to how effect an effective mentor can have on an individual of any age. One study estimates that the human potential lost as a result of the educational achievement gap is the economic equivalent of a permanent national recession. preparing young people for college and careers, mentoring helps develop the future workplace talent pipeline. During this 9 month program we will serve approximately 10 youth and 17 young adults.
