MYDEL wants to relocate and extend its current project; Soccer Academy & Boys Home and build a club house with a corresponding soccer field in order to provide a safe (training) space to 120 vulnerable boys from the Mengo-Kisenyi slum area in Kampala. The aim of the project is to minimize the negative slum influence in the children's lives, to support them in their personal development and to give them the opportunity to practice their soccer skills in order to receive sponsorship for education.
Youth in Mengo-Kisenyi are especially facing challenges such as different health risks, drug abuse or domestic violence. Therefore many children end up homeless on the streets without any adult caretaker and access to the education system. One of the only possibilities to get into school is by receiving sponsorship due to talent (e.g. in sports such as soccer). For ensuring a good soccer training to receive sponsorship for education and to provide a safe space, adequate facilities are needed.
Building and extending the Soccer Academy&Boys Home provides an adequate home and good training facilities for the talented young boys, protecting them from the negative slum influence and instead providing an environment for education, personal development and future opportunities.Through better facilities and training conditions, participants have higher chances to receive a sponsorship for education, getting access to school and through this have better future life perspectives.
The project will contribute to provide access to education for vulnerable young boys from Mengo-Kisenyi slum area and to improve their future opportunities and living conditions. By focusing on getting scholarships for school through fostering their talent in soccer, by providing a home and safe space and supporting them in their personal development, we aim to provide better living conditions for them and contribute to fight poverty and reduce unemployment and health risks in the community.
