Construction of pit latrines will improve hygiene conditions, reduce the risk of water borne diseases and promote better enrollment and attendance rates. Therefore God's Love Home is working to mitigate the risks facing vulnerable children by strengthening community support networks. Pit latrine construction project aims to connect the children and their caregivers with services and support to meet their needs.
God's Love School has successfully enrolled the 170 children including the orphans. However, this school lack child friendly sanitation and hygiene facilities. God's Love Home is to help by constructing pit latrine. GLH currently has a functioning flush toilet. We would like to swap this for a pit latrine. This might sound slightly strange to those of you in the western world, but a pit latrine will bring us many benefits.
Importantly, a pit latrine does not require water so will significantly reduce our water usage. This will make a big difference to our water bill and help us do our part to save water in light of water shortages in the area. Pit latrines are also great for sanitation. When built with properly constructed slabs, they are very easy to clean, which will make it easier to maintain good levels of hygiene for the children.
God's Love Home & School has exciting goals for the future. We want to open our arms and doors to more vulnerable children - to care for them, educate them, and provide them with the tools they need for when they move on from GLH. With our pit latrine , we hope to get much closer to achieving these goals.
