This project will build two libraries which is integral to the teaching learning process. The libraries will benefit 500 basic school children in the Akweley community where there is a high rate of illiteracy due to poverty. Book to Read Foundation in pursuit of one of our aims towards bringing to the barest minimum the high illiteracy rate has so far donated over 1000 reading materials ,stationery , desktop computers and organized spelling bee competition for the pupils in the community
Akweley, a deprived community faces the following challenges: poverty, high illiteracy rate and inadequate basic school infrastructure. BTRF aims at freeing children from such communities from the cycle of poverty and high illiteracy rate. We believe this can be done by creating and equipping library facilities for schools in such deprived communities, develop the love of reading among school children and to provide reading materials and ICT tools to help promote a knowledge driven communities
The libraries which will be provided with a variety of high quality selected resources, information and tools in all format will ensure that each of these 500 pupils get equitable access to resources irrespective of constrains at home. The project will help develop their literacy skills, enrich their mental and intellectual growth and help promote and sustain the habit and enjoyment of reading.This will enhance their quality of education and help break the vicious cycle of illiteracy and poverty
The two libraries will serve as a gateway to knowledge and help bring to the barest minimum the high illiteracy rate in the community. The speaking, writing, and reading skills of these 500 beneficiaries will be developed. Their knowledge curiosity and confident level will also be built as they go through rare books of literature of their interest in their reading clubs. In effects the two libraries will exhibit positive impact on the academic life of the pupils towards a brighter future.
