Challenge

On a daily basis, we provide academic, arts-based and after school programming to children in the City of Chicago, where 90% are from low-income families and approved for free and reduced lunch and 5% are deemed homeless. LBPA has faced two budget cuts within the current school year. The school is challenged to enhance the limited funding designated for educational resources. Donations helps provide a quality and equitable education to under-served youth.

Solution

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, "Childhood overweight and obesity affects more than 30 percent of children in the United States and in Illinois". Providing a space where students can be guided and trained in healthy living will be one step in helping to reduce this issue among teens that we serve.

Long-Term Impact

We will educate and train over 200 students per year on how to take care of their bodies and what the long-term affects will be if they start early in life.
