Build a Medical Clinic for 1,250 Mayan Children

$5,864 $20,136
Raised Remaining

Through community organizing and intensive medical care, WK is one of the few NGOs in Guatemala successfully treating child malnutrition. WK needs a building in order sustain & expand these services.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

In 2007, WK began working on child malnutrition in Socorro Suchitepequez, Guatemala. In under two years, WK cut the rates of child malnutrition in that region by more than half. Unfortunately, WK's current building in the Bocacosta lacks adequate ventilation, lighting, or examination space. This severely limits WK's ability to scale up services and, ultimately, treat more children. WK has already raised funds to purchase the plot of land. Now, funds for the building itself are needed.

How will this project solve this problem?

Over the next several years, WK hopes to expand its successful child malnutrition program to half a dozen towns surrounding Socorro. Through construction of a new clinical space, WK will be equipped to serve about 1,250 children and their families.

Potential Long Term Impact

With a building on the coast, WK can respond to sustain and expand services for vulnerable and malnourished children. WK's clean water projects, women's health initiatives, and community education programs, already underway, will also expand more.
