The past quarter has marked a series of learning experiences and achievements. The construction of new facilities came to an end, the final class sat for a National Exam, which results will be out early next year, and the school closed for end of year big holidays in October 2014 and will resume classes next January.
New Teaching Methodologies
Over the course of the past quarter, Sanejo interns continued to work closely with teachers and assist them in their daily activities. Specifically, the emphasis was put on using participatory teaching methodologies to familiarize with the Rwandan Education Board’s new curriculum which will be introduced in 2016. The interns were able to provide model lessons and assist teachers in preparations. In addition to that, teachers keep working hard to improve their level of English.
Students’ Learning Development
Students have greatly benefited from teachers trainings and improved teaching methods. They are improving their reading skills and making it a culture at the school, improving their behavioral conduct and helping each other in their study groups. Specifically the P3 class formed a dancing troop where they had a Rwandan cultural dancing, modern dancing and drama units rehearsing weekly.
At the end of third term, the final class took the National Exam after which they were rewarded with a trip at the King’s Palace Museum in recognition to their hard work during tests, where they scored among the top schools in the district. The school has closed in October for big holidays, and teachers as well as school leaders are using this time to properly range the school library before classes resume in January 2015.
