UNNAYAN plans to build a 20-seated Community Toilet and a Bathing Ghat for 50 dalit families in the village. They are having insufficient homestead land and no household toilet of their own and therefore, they are left with no option other than open defecation.The objective is to improve personal hygiene vis-a-vis community health & sanitation and make the village open defecation free.
Most of the families of the village have build their own toilets with Government support. But about 50 families of the dalit community having no household toilets are to go for open defecation. Since, a main road passes through this village , people are used to practice open defecation by the road side or on open field. In order to address the problem of open defecation and unhygienic environment, a Community Toilet along with a Bathing Ghat has been mooted.
After building the Community Toilet, villagers will be motivated to use the latrines and maintain the cleanness of the pond for use as bathing ghat. It will result in clean environment and healthy atmosphere. The practice of using toilets will make their life healthy and hygienic and raise their self-esteem.
The self-esteem and civic sense will be inculcated in the minds of the targeted beneficiaries. The socially demeaned community will be brought into the fold of main stream by providing them required sanitation. The practice of using toilets will make lives healthy and hygienic. The pond water will also be in a safe and usable condition for the community which will facilitate fish farming for generating community income.
