The Makoko village is an underserved slum deprived of health care facilities this has led to increase in mortality rate hence the Docotal health foundation is building a clinic to provide basic health care delivery.
Makoko is an underdeveloped suburban slum in Lagos commercial centre. Residents here, must travel a busy traffic congested road of over 5 to 8 km for medical care.As such, people in this region suffer daily, and in some cases, die needlessly because they do not have access to routine medical care. Additionally, the slum lacks a professional antenatal care facilities which has caused so many maternal death and also increased infantile mortality rate. Likewise increase of preventable diseases.
The Makoko clinic project will provide a first hand health care delivery services which will eradicate the common preventable diseases and likewise offer an opportunity for better professional antenatal care , as such reduce maternal death rate in this community. Additionally, the proposed borehole will also serve as a source of portable water which will consequently reduce the rate of waterborne diseases.
In the long term, the project will reduce the Maternal and infant mortality rate thereby improving the health index of Nigeria. The clinic will ensure adequate vaccination of the new born babies will reduce the incidence of preventable diseases in the community and the spread to other communities. Improving the standard of health will ensure an increase in the population productivity hence contribute to Gross domestic product of the community likewise the Nation.
