Building of 2 integrated girls dormitories in logorate and Lkuroto primaries,this will be a safe haven to girl child against retrogressive cultural practices of female genital mutilation and early marriages,it will improve school enrollment,retention and completion rates.Reduce absenteeism,dropouts and improve performance in national examinations. Construction will be done with partnership of the ministry of education,health, Samburu county government and school management committees.
Gender disparities is a common feature in primary education level particularly the girl child.Transition rates are very low as depicted in transitional trends,in samburu county the primary school net enrollment rate is 60%,this means that about 40% of primary age children are out of school,secondary school net enrollment rate is much lower at 15.4%. It is estimated that 25,956 primary school age and 24,124 secondary school age children are out of school in the county.
Boarding will provide good learning environment,the facility will combat cultural practices such as female genital mutilation,early and forced marriages that are endemic in the area and to ensure retention,if the girls are retained in school through setting up boarding facilities cases of early pregnancies will be prevented, health training's on personal hygiene and remedial lessons will be conducted for slow learners to improve their performance in national examinations.meals will be provided.
The permanent structures will replace the temporary ones thus reducing the costs of repairs as a result of damages.The project will act as a catchment/rescues/resource center for 600 girls that will benefit directly and those who will continue to board as this is an year in and year out boarding project and the girls in the rural community will be equipped with knowledge,skills,attitudes and values to interact effectively with the world and be contributing members of the society
