Lack of sanitation facilities and privacy for women and girls in poor rural and tribal households. This results in high incidences of communicable diseases, contaminated water, and poor access to health clinics. Most people in rural India may not consider building a toilet at home a priority. People also feel that it is polluting to have toilets in their homes. In rural India women do not go alone. They wait for each other. Defecating in the open is also embarrassing for women.

Pre- construction phase:Through awareness creation/sensitization on the negative consequences and health hazards of open air defecation by organizing health education programmes and distributing education materials Construction phase:Improved sanitation in villages will be encouraged by the construction of toilets with the cooperation.participation of the families and local CBOs Post construction phase :Post construction of toilets, families will be educated on how to maintain the toilets

Long-Term Impact

-Women,girls and the aged family members will have privacy to defecation. -Incidence of hook worm infection will be reduced. -Medical expenses related to unhygienic environment will be reduced. -Surrounding environment will be clean and healthy. -Pregnant women who may need to use toilets frequently will now have access to the same in their own households. -Safety and security of women and girls will be ensured.
