Early marriages are on increase in Sironko district hence increased children families. the organization will seek a child marriage free community among 2000 girls in 3 sub counties of Sironko by sensitizing communities, strengthening child protection structures and training girls to advocate for their rights. Traditional leaders will also be engaged because it has been discovered that during cultural activities which take place in even years, e.g 2010, 2012, 2014, teenagers are usually raped
The community is facing a challenge of teenage marriages and pregnancies especially in the 3 sub counties of Sironko. The girls below the age of 18 are the most affected as they are often enticed into early sex leading to unwanted teenage pregnancies.On an annual basis, out of every 10 girls below the age of 18, at least 2 get married or try to abort. The problem is children families. the project will there fore benefit young girls below 18 years to protect them from early marriages.
The project will therefore organize 2000 girls below the age of 18 into children clubs (youth groups) and train community mentors to help in the sensitization and advocacy for children rights. The project will further train child protection structures to become strong in identifying and reporting early marriage cases. families and traditional leaders will be sensitized to drop cultural beliefs on child marriages and accepting of bribes and fines . work with police to enforce laws on children
The project for this purpose will see a community where all girl children reach their fulfilled and desired destination in life. A community where girls and valued and allowed to attain a desired future by marrying at the right time. the community will also benefit when their children continue with education to end and come back to help their parents instead of getting married at tender ages only to become burdens to their communities and parents. A total of 2000 girls will directly benefit.
