Bring Yoga to Save Black Boys in Compton

by Y.O.G.A. for Youth

The young men of Compton need your support. Every day, these kids and teens are faced with huge challenges - including poor nutrition, drug use, depression, and negative self image. They are surrounded by adults who don't believe in their ability to make something amazing of their lives. Save Black Boys and Y.O.G.A. for Youth are partnering to change this by bringing yoga and meditation classes to the boys. Through our classes, the young men will gain self-esteem, positivity, and resiliency.

The boys of Save Black Boys are faced with some of the hardest of life's challenges, including poor nutrition, physical and emotional abuse, depression, drug abuse, systemic violence, and low expectations from the adults surrounding them. Growing up in Compton, they have few positive male role models, and most of the men they know end up incarcerated.

Y.O.G.A. for Youth will give these boys a new lease on life by bringing them monthly yoga and meditation classes. The Y.O.G.A. for Youth curriculum has been proven to increase self-esteem, positivity, and resiliency for low-income students of color. Through weekly classes led by positive role models, Y.O.G.A. for Youth will give the students of Save Black Boys the tools they need to be successful in their own lives, no matter what comes their way.

Long-Term Impact

The young men of Save Black Boys will use yoga and mindfulness for the rest of their lives to support their own health and wellbeing. In turn, they can share these tools with their own families, creating a ripple effect of health and wellness in the Compton community.
