Unfortunately, there are 3 million children in Pakistan suffering from blindness or impaired vision - conditions that could easily have been prevented or cured. In teeming Pakistan where two-thirds of the population lives below or just above the poverty line; the government earmarks less than 1% of the GDP to healthcare, 45% of the Pakistani population has no access to health facilities - the chances of receiving treatment are slim at best.
The project will help us these children's surgeries. Pediatrics is the most delicate area of eye-care, as it requires a high level of specialized skills. LRBT provides the most comprehensive pediatric eye-care, ranging from School Screening Programmes to pediatric specialty clinics which deal with everything from low vision to the most advanced corneal transplants.
In spite of all these efforts there is a massive back-log and hundreds of thousands of children face a life of darkness unless we can sustain and extend our facilities. And this is where this project can make a difference. The contributions from the project can enable a child to look life in the face and smile again
