According to the District Directorate record, in 2014 the antenatal registrants was 401 with 81 teenage pregnancies representing 20.2%. In 2015 it records 517 with 120 teenage pregnancies representing 23% and in 2016 our initiatives in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service gave a record of 654 out of which 111 teenage pregnancies were recorded. It is in line with this that we are soliciting for funding to reduce teenage pregnancy and expand the program to cover additional communities.

GOSANET identified the need to train health workers, teachers to educate adolescents, sensitize community members, within the district and to form advocacy groups in the schools and communities. To create awareness, educate and inform young people on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights. The educators also create dialogue to enable open discussions among students, teachers and parents on SRH issues , STIs and its related consequences. To empower teenage mothers go back to school or learn a skill.

Long-Term Impact

The project will reduce to at least 7% the number of teenage pregnancies cases within the catchment area during and after the project period and also seek to transform the attitude and behavior of 11,000 (adolescents) young people and community members and increase the use of family planning devices among teenagers.
