Korku tribe children are one of the worst victims of malnutrition. Nearly half of them are stunted due to continuing hunger. The major reason is that they are not able to access enough protein and essential nutrients. Due to poverty they cannot buy enough poultry and vegetables. The project intends to bring back nutrition in poor's plates and that will certainly help children to grow healthy and happy. Its a means to bring back hope to families of malnourished children.
The project will support mothers of 300 severely malnourished children by providing them vegetable seeds to grow Backyard Nutrition Gardens and a poultry unit to raise free range chickens. It will help the family absorb most of the protein and nutrients especially women and children. They can also supplement their income by selling surplus to meed other household needs. The Project will also provide them chicken feeds and training to multiply the support extended.
It will help at least 250 malnourished children recover to normalcy at home itself. The family and neighborhood will benefit by having most of the nutrition readily available. The support will multiply and over a period of time may reach 500 families. This will help in creating a food and nutrition secure environment and reduce the current rates of malnutrition among children below six years.
