Thanks to your support in 2018, we were able to raise enough funds for CENIT to run the street outreach programme at CENIT. This means that our partner organisation, CENIT, has been able to support school age children working in the markets of Southern Quito into the education system and preschool children with educational and recreational play groups in preparation for starting school in a safe environment. The children are also taught basic hygiene habits and are accompanied to the dentist or doctor as needed.
Street outreach is the important first stage of a process of supporting children through the education system. In the long-term, these children will be able to access education and training, which will allow them to secure employment, break the poverty cycle and lead a life of dignity.
Maintaining the funding for this and other key roles over time is an enormous challenge for us at ViaNinos. We have started fundraising for street outreach to run in 2020, so please support our new campaign. You might like to consider a small recurring donation to help us secure the future of the project. Alternatively a one-off donation would be very welcome too! The great news is that if you donate between the 12th and 16th August, Global Giving are matching your donation 60%!
Thank you as always,
Bridget and the ViaNinos team

Earlier this year, we were thrilled to collaborate with the organisation School In A Bag. Thanks to their support, 150 children at CENIT received brand new school bags filled with everything they need from pencils to protractors. The children have benefitted not only from having all the items they need for their school and homework, but they also enjoyed a bit of a motivational boost!
Albrecht and Veronica (members of ViaNinos in Germany) visited CENIT over the Christmas period and reported back on all the projects. Thanks to your support, we are financing the salary of one outreach worker, who is doing a fantastic job along with volunteers out and about in the markets identifying working children and supporting them and their families to create pathways out of poverty.
CENIT are always looking for new volunteers - if you’d like to find out more about volunteering, contact info@vianinos.org. CENIT have also been recruiting more Ecuadorian volunteers through the local university’s social action programme.
Thank for your interest and support.
Once again thank you for supporting the street outreach programme at CENIT. Thanks to you the programme will run in 2019 too. If you would like to help us secure the long-term future of this project, please consider becoming a regular donor.
Things have been going great at CENIT and they are enjoying a well-earned break over the Christmas period ready for the start of a new year. The street outreach programme and the support CENIT offers will enable many more children to enjoy more time playing and learning and less time working and on the street.
At the end of last term, the children celebrated a day of friendship with a special event at CENIT and it looks like a good time was had by all. If you would like to join in the fun and help out, why not consider volunteering?
Lastly, from all of us at ViaNinos and all at CENIT, we hope you have had a good holiday and wish you a very happy and healthy new year!
Wow! What a fantastic result… we are thrilled to report that we made our target to fund the salary of a street outreach worker at CENIT for next year. You, our supporters made it possible.
Street outreach worker, Wilma, is out and about identifying working children in the markets and promoting CENIT’s programme. This summer CENIT ran a summer camp for working children. 120 children took part receiving a healthy lunch and participating in various activities such as sports and arts and crafts. They even enjoyed a group outing to the park. Some of these children are already enrolled in the street outreach programme but staff and volunteers were able to identify many more working children and talk to their parents about signing them up.
They had a wonderful surprise at CENIT recently, when one of their former students returned for a visit. Abel was at CENIT in 2002 and returned in the hopes of tracking down the volunteers and staff that helped him back then. He talked about his fond memories of CENIT and was overjoyed to reconnect with project coordinator Martha. Abel graduated from high school and university and now works for a TV cable company. As one student said, “way to go, Abel! Thank you for stopping by, it really brightened our week!”
Thanks to you, CENIT’s street outreach programme will continue in 2019. If you’d like to help secure the future of the programme beyond next year, please consider setting up a regular donation… just £5 per month makes a big difference.
Thank you for helping CENIT in their mission to eradicate child labour in Quito, Ecuador.
