by African Youth Development Forum
Breaking language barriers for refugee youth.

Summary

Our focus is on Alien (Refugee Youth) from Somalia who have no language communication skills. These alien youths as young as they are, they are surrounded by a sense of worthlessness. Since they speak only Somali language, we have introduced free English and Swahili learning through speaking, reading and writing to enable them to communicate effectively.Because of the suffering of the alien youth have endured, we have decided to dedicate our selves to teaching them English and Swahili.

Challenge

The problem AYDF wishes to address is to introduce free English and Swahili learning skills to Alien refugee youth in Eastleigh. These aliens cannot speak, read and write English and Swahili languages. These alien youth are refugees from the strife-torn Somalia. They speak only Somali language and they have no money to enroll for the English and Swahili courses.

Solution

Our plan to address this identified issue above by providing opportunities and space for aliens to engage in social and economic activities because they have mastered the languages of communication, they will be able to participate in private and public affairs equally as the citizens.

Long-Term Impact

All Aliens enrolled in English and Swahili literacy courses can speak, read and write. They are empowered to a level that they can be employed, start their own enterprises and participate in social, economic, cultural and sporting activities.
