With the Born Learning Campaign declared as United Way’s national campaign of India and statistics reflecting the urgent work required in this direction,United Way Bengaluru will support five new anganwadis in the city in an effort to scale up this initiative.
It was earlier supporting 32 BLC centers and the five new centers will take the total up to 42 in Bengaluru Urban and Rural.
Supported by our corporate partner, the five anganwadi centers too will be brought under compliance by United Way’s Born Learning Campaign with its clear cut objectives which are:
• Enhance early learning abilities, including fine and gross motor skills.
• Engage mothers to spread awareness on health and hygiene
• To provide a conducive environment for early learning
The initiative was inaugurated in September, 2016 by Political leader of the area Mr Krishnappa and Executive Director of United Way Bengaluru Mr Manish. Nearly 100 mothers, teachers from neighboring schools, anganwadi workers and children participated in this event.
The program commenced with an ice breaking session for mothers who played fun games, sang songs and also actively took part in a discussion on the legal repercussions of child marriage which is still a prevalent practise in rural areas.
The chief guests for the event were CDPO of the Women and Child Development Department Mr Siddaramanna and Political Leader Mr Krishnappa.
Speaking the occasion, the CDPO Mr Siddaramanna hailed the role of a mother in a child’s life and stressed the importance of guiding the child in the right direction through its formative years. He also urged mothers to use their time constructively, “Take up income generation activities in your spare time. In today’s day and age, one income is not enough, especially when living in the city. Once your child is able to handle most tasks independently, use your spare time to learn a new skill or take up a small job to financially support your family”
Political leader Mr Krishnappa said, “United Way Bengaluru is reaching out to children from the poorest of poor communities. We are happy with the impact they have created.
The event ended with a sumptuous meal and positive resolve among all present to enhance and better their lives.
