This project will expand the crafts show room and provide the necessary financing into other critical inputs in the production process such as quality raw materials, packing and marketing. The impact shall be producing vibrant competitive products, marketing and promotion and in the long run strengthen the economic status of 300 rural women in Uganda, while solving a problem of financing as an input into economic activities underlying competitive performance of small and medium enterprises.
Poverty in Uganda has a predominantly female face. Some barriers are still preventing women especially from the country side from participating more directly in monetized economic activities that has significant impact for improving family welfare. 80% of women in Uganda still fall in this category despite development actors effort to improve their situation. This project will affect about 300 women in new skills, employment, earnings, and bargaining power to achieve economic development.
This project will improve on the quality of production through value addition, expand production capacity, open market links through marketing and promotion, improve on storage infrastructure, improve on skills through training to 300 women in Rubirizi District-Uganda. This project is anticipated to have a spill over effect to the neighbors.
The project will address issues of gender imbalances in economic empowerment. 300 women will benefit from the project through efforts to promote entrepreneurship and develop women's businesses. At the community level, the project will ensure dissemination of information and hands on experience in business skills, modern production, value addition, information and records management and marketing.
