Thank you for supporting past projects of T.E.N. Chairities/Made By Survivors. The Empower 300 Survivors with Jobs & Renewable Energy has been completed. The Biogas generator and barns have been built and energy is being used in the kitchen for cooking. Income is generated by the food, as well as from the milk from the cows whose waste fuels the biogas generator. Again thank you for your support.
This Wed, March 14th Global Giving is having bonus days. They will match up to 30% funds donated through the Global Giving site. Would you please consider donating to one of our two new projects on Global Giving?
Both of these projects provide employment to survivors of sex slavery and at risk women and youth. Below is an overview of why we do the jewelry centers:
Made By Survivors is operates a jewelry centers in Kolkata & Mumbia, with a 3rd center opening in Jalpaiguri in 2012. We currently train and employ 60 survivors of sex slavery in goldsmith. The survivors receive a fair wage for creating beautiful jewelry. Sustainable employment and fair wages are part of the restorative process that allows survivors to economically provide for themselves and protect themselves from further exploitation by eliminating the desperation of dire poverty.
Lack of jobs and the inability to have a sustainable income is the largest risk factor and cause of modern day slavery. In order to fight against the underlying causes of slavery Made By Survivors - a project of TEN Charities - partners with shelters and rescue organizations worldwide providing education, job training, and job opportunities for survivors and their children. Since its inception TEN Charities has grown to serve over 1,000 survivors and their children in 12 programs throughout India, Cambodia, Nepal, Thailand, Uganda, and the US.
For rescued survivors of sexual slavery, and for young women who have grown up in red light areas, Made By Survivors employment centers offer the means to support themselves independently and to rejoin mainstream society. Made By Survivors employment centers provide rescued survivors with fairly paid employment, counseling, health care, job and life skills, assistance in finding housing, and non-formal education in computers, English and business. These services greatly reduce the risk that they or their children will be exploited.
Thank you for your continued support of survivors of human trafficking. Please take a look at these new projects and consider a donation on March 14th or anytime. Thank you!
