HALO Youth, Aspen, is off to College!

At The HALO Home, our youth have a strong focus on setting and achieving goals that support their education. HALO puts homeless youth on a path to a positive future through tutoring, scholarship opportunities and help preparing for higher education, our youth work hard to leave the "at-risk" label behind and finally be seen as just a great kid with the potential to do great things.

We are so proud to kick off the new year by celebrating HALO youth, Aspen's, graduation from the HALO Home and help move her into her college dorm room!  While in the HALO Home, Aspen worked hard on her educational goals, communicating right away her desire to further her education by going to college.  She worked hard on learning tools for coping from past traumas and her self-care to help prepare her for independent living in a college environment.

In early January, Aspen was awarded a full scholarship to a local university that provides her with three free meals a day, a dorm room with a roomate and a free bus pass to support her transportation needs to classes and work.  She quickly made plans to save money from her paycheck to apply towards campus living during the summertime, demonstrating her focus on long-term planning for her housing to ensure she breaks the cycle of homelessness for her future.

Thanks to our supporters, HALO was able to help provide Aspen with everything she needed to move into her new dorm room with confidence, just like any other student, including twin sheets, towels, a mattress pad, hangers, a trash can and a message board.

We are so proud of Aspen and wish her the best on her new journey as a college student!
