Challenge

The Region Mchinji is facing fundamental problems. Around 50% of the 50 villages don't have access to clean & safe drinking water. Way less have access to basic sanitation. Therefore a lot of people, especially children, suffer from diseases like malaria or diarrhea. Furthermore Mchinji is a very dry region and is hardly affected by the climate change and is facing some serious hunger problems during the dry season.

Solution

With the borehole we built in 2013 and toilets the village will be able to have a healthy life and the villagers have more time to spend on other things such as agriculture oder education. Furthermore the toilets produce natural compost, which is used on the fields to grow more and better food.

Long-Term Impact

Once every family have access to a toilet, there will be enough compost all over the year and diseases will mostly disappear. There will be enough food for all 72 households in the village and the children can take their time to go to school. The older villagers can grow cash crops besides their own food and a healthy development will come to this village.
