This is emergency response to help people whose properties and food crops have been severely destroyed by flooding due to heavy rains. Over 2,000 ha of crop farms have been destroyed in the in the sub-county. This has affected livelihood of over 12,000 people who depend entirely on farming as their main source of livelihood. Some have lost their shelter and are hanging their hopes on relief assistance. Thus, supporting them with food and non food items will enable them cope with situation.
Budalangi lies within the lower Nzoia basin, a depository zone of River Nzoia. The continuing rains in Kenya has displaced people living in the lowlands and destroyed all the crops that were planted in march, 2018.Over 2,000 families are affected are now in dire need of humanitarian response. The families need food and Non- food items to enable them survive in the current situation.
ICEECO intends to respond to the immediate needs of those affected by providing a minimum survival package composed of food rations, Tarpaulins for temporary shelters, Mosquito nets, household utensils and bedding among others. Besides this, the project will also provide vegetable seeds which can mature within 3 months so that people can plant them in small plots which are not submerged. This will supplement food rations.
The affected people will be able to settle and continue with their lives and slowly recover from the impact of the floods.
