Welcome to Atlas Corps Class 10!
Welcome to Atlas Corps Class 10!

Today, September 4 is the first day for Class 10 at their Host Organizations. Thank you for the support that enabled these inspiring leaders (doesn't their picture look great!) to embark on this unique learning journey! Already our Fellow Madiha Shafi (Pakistan, serving at CARE USA) shared: "I am so glad to be here. I just had an office tour and meeting with all new colleagues and it is a nice place indeed!"

Now is a great time to become a direct part of the 12-month experience with for these Fellows. GlobalGiving is offering a 100% for new monthly donations made now through September 7, 2012. (For example, if you set up a new $25 monthly recurring donation, GlobalGiving will donate an additional $25 to the project.) It is also a great opportunity to invite a friend to get involved in Atlas Corps...a simple investment can inspire global impact. A great example is the closing reflection of Class 7 Fellow Diana Florez (Colombia, serving at Youth Service America) put her experience into simple terms: "My colleagues and I have delivered 35,360 hours of international service at thirteen host organizations with offices in 5 different cities in the United States of America from September 7, 2011 – August 17, 2012.I have learned from the qualities of hard work, commitment to social development, national pride, and the willingness to share exhibited by this dynamic group of 17 nonprofit leaders, representing 13 different countries and four continents."

Thank you for supporting emerging global leaders like Madiha and Diana! We invite you to become an ongoing part of this experience by becoming a monthly donor.

The world is our oyster and our network is the pearl of our achievements. Sounds beautiful, right? Well, at Atlas Corps, it is more than just beautiful. It is our inspiration. It is an idea supported by fact. The facts that describe our exciting and ever-expanding global network.. Here are just a few of these interesting facts.

It is a fact that...

  • we have engaged 108 Fellows from 32 countries.
  • we have placed our Fellows in 8 cities in 2 countries.
  • we have received applications from more than 130 countries.
  • we have more than 250 active volunteers in our virtual network.
  • we will welcome our 10th Class of Fellows in September 2012.

Over the past few weeks, we have been especially focused on building this global network. From Spain to Stockholm to Sao Paolo, our staff and Fellows have traveled and engaged in conversations, shared their perspective, and enlightened us with these new ideas. In addition, our newly formed Selection Board of volunteers from around the world more than doubled the capacity of our Recruitment Team to review the high volume of applications. The Selection Board also demonstrates a unified commitment to global service and leadership development. They invest their time as volunteers to help us identify the outstanding applicants that we can send to our potential Host Organizations.

Act local. Impact global. Invest 30% more on Wednesday, March 14!

Six years ago, Atlas Corps went from an idea on paper to an incorporated nonprofit organization. In 2007, we welcomed our first group of Fellows - the six trailblazing leaders you see in the photo. Now, we are a thriving international movement that annually engages 50 leaders from around the world in a year of service in the United States and Colombia. You inspired us to this level of success in such a short time!

Of course, we are more than just numbers. We are people who make a different each and every day in our world. Your generous donations of $10, $50, $100s have supported inspired leaders like.....

    • Vithika (India, Class 1) who served at Free the Slaves in Washington, DC, and continues her fight for human rights in India, the United States, and around the world; or
    • Katia (Brazil, Class 3) who served at the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in Washington, DC, and returned to Brazil to open their first Latin American office.
    • Mohammed (Sudan, Class 7) our first Fellow from Sudan is sharing his community health knowledge at Susan G. Komen for the Cure and desires to bring this knowledge back to his country to improve health outreach and education in his home.

Your support of Atlas Corps show your belief in these leaders who achieve positive change in our world. Help spread the word on Wednesday with these three simple actions:
