As reported in February this year, there are still twenty (20) more ex-child slaves waiting to be enrolled into apprenticeship training. Currently, however, funds obtained so far make way for the enrolment of only two (2) ex-child slaves and since it is more cost effective to enrol more ex-child slaves at a go than in bits, it has become necessary that enrolment is put on hold till sufficient funds are obtained to enrol more ex-child slaves at a time. This is also expected to help us work within the limits of the original and overall budget for the project (US$15,000).
Nonetheless, monitoring on the project was conducted the second time. The activity revealed that most of the ex-child slaves were doing well. According to the various Master Craftsmen/ Women, the ex-child slaves are showing a serious attitude towards the training and most of them are doing very well.
Some challenges encountered during the monitoring was absence of some of the ex-child slaves from their training sites. This, their Master Craftsmen/ Women attributed to attendance to duty calls elsewhere and off duty as well as ill health.
