Project #10246

Assist 38 ex-child slaves in Ghana for training

by Rescue Foundation Ghana
$7,550 Raised
total goal
monthly donors
There are ex-child slaves in several poor communities between ages 15 to 22 with no education and no support or livelihood after being trafficked for several years. Rescue Foundation is seeking to raise $15,000 to help 38 of them with apprenticeship training by attaching them to Master Craftsmen to learn vocations such as masonry, carpentry, auto-mechanic, hairdressing and dress-making, thus enabling these unfortunate persons to live better lives.

Trafficked children rescued and returned to own communities often lack support for basic education and skills training. Most of these children suffer serious medical conditions including emotional and psychological problems. Many of the them end up being re-trafficked into forced labour. For those children who remain in their communities they become outcasts and ridiculed. In self defense some resort to violent behaviour. They need help to live healthy and productive lives.

The problem will be solved through: Provision of skills training in carpentry, masonry, auto-mechanic, hairdressing and dressmaking to enable them live better lives Forming them into peer groups for self-support and encouragement to stay out of trouble Forming networks among ex-child slave group and other groups in the communities for proper integration Providing counseling and medical care for ex-child slaves RFG will continue to monitor and encourage the ex-slaves

Long-Term Impact

The project will: 1.Prevent the re-trafficking of ex-child slaves, 2.Provide livelihood for ex-slaves and improve their lives 3.Reduce violence in the communities 4.Reduce child trafficking in general 5.Reduce poverty among the ex-child slaves because of the skills learnt. 6. Enable ex-slaves to live productive and respectable lives 7. Will reduce violence in society and bring peace 8. Ghana's human resource base will be enlarged
