Provide a Safe Haven for Indian Children

The school re-opened on 15th May 2016 for the new academic year after a 2 month summer break. 


2015-2016 Class X board exams were held in April 2016 and the results were announced in May 2016. Once again the students of Class X scored cent percent results with all 30 students having scored 1st classes with 12 students scoring distinctions-(above 85 %). Two students are Kolar district toppers in Kannada medium SSLC board Examination-  Divya  96.3%  and Nagarjuna  96.1 %.

The students of all the other classes have been promoted to the next class.

New Admission

In May 2016 , 67 new admissions were taken – 35 in the Lower Kindergarten and 2-5 extra in each class- the strength of each class in now 35. This was done to provide opportunity for more needy students to get an education.

Total strength - Girls 210; Boys 218  -  Total 418  ( 100 students in the hostel)

Rain Rain...

 Neelbagh School has received very good rains during the last 6 months and replenished all the water sources - tanks and bore wells. The school will not face a water crisis this year.

Vocational Training

A series of dance and vocational training workshops are being planned for the current academic year.

Parents Teacher Meeting

The first Parent Teacher Meeting for the academic year was held in June and it was well attended by majority of the parents. They were oriented to the various facilities available to the students, rules and philosophy of the school, child protection guidelines were discussed with the teachers and parents and parents were encouraged not to use harsh punishment with the children at home.

The new students were assigned respective houses and the first monthly drawing   competition was held. 

 Class X students presented a cultural program –drama “health is Wealth”, folk songs, group dance and Kolata were appreciated by all.

During the months of April  and May the children in the crèches were preparing to start their summer vacations and also join formal schools.

The crèches were closed for a two week summer break. 

Happy and Sad Moment

The month of May was mixed with happy and sad emotions.  Many children were leaving and an equal number were joining  as well. 

The older children left us with a happy note. The parents thanked Ashraya and the teachers for doing a commendable job. They appreciated  the efforts of the teachers in enabling a positive and stimulating environment in the crèches and allowing the child to learn and develop through a holistic approach. The children gain good nutrition,  hygiene habits and discipline in daily activities.  Overall this year we had 144 children join regular schools from al the crèches .

  New admission

 New  admissions are accepted in the month of June. ( Children are 3-5 years of age ). Applications are screened for the appropriate age and criteria and admissions are finalized. This year we have enrolled 158 new children. Currently we have a total of 206 children in all the creches.  

 The first two weeks  the crèches function for  half day  to allow the children settle down. Third week onwards the crèches are functioning  for the fll day as the children have settled down.  The teachers  make the children play with toys and sing rhymes to  distract the children.

 All the children get a nutritious meal in the afternoon. The first lessons taught are on personal hygiene – washing hands before a meal,  eat neatly without spilling etc

Regular doctor’s visits were  started.

 The first parent teacher  meetings were held , the parents were given an opportunity to express their views, a majority of the parents were happy to see how cheerful and happy the children were. They were briefed on  importance of maintaining hygiene and regular attendance etc.

AshrayaCrèche New Year Party 2016

Ashraya’s annual New Year party for all the crèche children and staff was held on January 9th 2016 at Ashraya’s office premises. Children and staff from the 5 crèches - (Banaswadi, Avalahalli, Siddapura, Shivajinagar, and Indiranagar) were invited.

A total of 165 children and 16 staff members attended.  Committee members and one volunteer also attended. 

The sponsors for this party were:

Anne Gray OWC member- lunch and magic show; Jumporee (jumping castle) by Ms. Sudha; Nithya Reddy transport for one crèche.

Transport for the other crèches was arranged through Mani travels by Ashraya.

The crèche teachers and children started preparing for this program in December-2015. The children were very excited practicing their songs and dance items.  


Every year Ms. Sudha organizes Jumporee (Jumping Castle) for the children. The children enjoyed playing on it and had great fun.

Through Ms, Sudha, a magician for the Magic Show was also organised. Mr. Satish was excellent -he kept all the children and staff entertained with his funny tricks. The children enjoyed watching him. He also got few children and staff to participate.

The children from all the 5 crèches put up a great show. All the children were beautifully dressed; they were excited and very energetic. The children from all the crèches performed very well. Each crèche got 10 minutes to perform.

Shivajinagar crèche children put up a different, entertaining program. The children performed a small skit on “The Monkey and the Cap Seller”. The children acted beautifully; specially Mugilan, who gave a splendid performance.The children also danced for a song.

Siddapura crèche had a fashion show. All the children were dressed like famous spiritual personalities.

Avalahalli crèche performed 2 dance programs. They used props like vegetables drawn on KG Cardboard. They sang a song which included all the vegetables. It was amazing to watch them using the props.

Indiranagar crèche had 2 dances – the children danced and the songs were sung by the teacher. The song was on different size of flowers and the children danced very well.

Lunch:- A  special lunch was catered for all the children and staff.  The menu included Vegetable Pulav, Raita and Finger Chips ordered from Subramanya Catering. Sweets were ordered from Kanthi Sweets.  The children and staff liked the food; the children enjoyed eating the crispy finger chips.

New Year Gifts:- This year Ms. Shanthi Chacko -President Ashraya , handed over the  New Year gifts to the respective teachers  which was later distributed to all the children once they reached their crèches.

Overall it was great show. The entire programme went as per the schedule which ensured that everyone relaxed and enjoyed every bit of the programme.

The New Year Party was a great success because of the children, teachers and staff’s co-operation. A special thanks to all our crèche children for beginning the year with great energy and excitement.

PT Meeting:- This quarter is the last Parents Teacher meeting . The parents expressed their appreciation and thanked Ashraya and the staff for all the support. Admissions to formal school have started and the teachers are helping the parents in filling the forms, and guiding them about different schools the children attend.

Report for the quarter October 2015  to December 2015.

In this quarter the children have settled into a routine and are now  able  to read and write numbers. They have also started reading two letter words.

October is a month of  festivals and celebration in India .Apart from Dussehra   the festival of Lights  Deepavali  is also celebrated all over India.  This is the  time for  the children to enjoy lighting lamps, wearing new clothes and  bursting crackers. The teacher  took the opportunity and educated  the children about bursting crackers safely and  with the  supervision of the elders.   

Ashraya also  celebrated Diwali with all the crèche and admin staff. They  were all invited  to the office  for tea and snacks; each teacher showcased her talent by either singing or reciting a poem. They were all given Diwali gifts.

November- Due to the severe cyclonic weather in South India  Bangalore also experienced inclement weather and this affected the children as well .  It was very cold and  the parents were encouraged  to dress  the children with warm clothes. Regular doctor’s visit was done  to ensure that children were not following sick .

December:- This quarter the Parents Teachers meeting was arranged in all the crèches. The meeting went on very well.

  1. The  children’s activities and performance was shared with the parents.
  2. Their progress in height and weight were informed to the parents.
  3. The parents were educated about the RTE quota they can avail for their child’s education.
  4.  Admissions to formal schools and the process and application s etc were discussed with the parents .

The parents in turn shared  how the crèche has helped them and their children and said their were happy to see the young ones learning and following a routine. They all thanked the teacher and staff of Ashraya for supporting them and giving their children an opportunity. .


July is usually a busy month for all  the crèche  teachers. All the new children take time to settle down.  The teachers have been giving individual attention to the new children and  training them regularly on neat eating habits, toilet training etc.

 Once the children have settled into a routine and are comfortable in the crèche  the various activities are started.

The children have been introduced to alphabets, numbers, names of different types of fruits, vegetables, animals, birds and shapes. The younger children are engaged in  activities like playing and coordinating with beads, legos, drawing and colouring using chalk piece which helps develop fine motor skills and eye-coordination.

Children enjoy drawing and colouring and also have lot of fun singing rhymes.


On August 29th 2015 Ashraya  organized a  Teachers Workshop for all the crèche teachers. This year Ms. Nitya one of the Committee members   assessed the needs of the teachers and designed a workshop with the resource persons. The resource people Ms. Shana and Ms. Aruna  are  trained Montessori teachers from Gurukul School. They did a fantastic job. They made the workshop very interactive and all the teachers showed lot of interest and  their suggestions  was also taken into consideration.

 A total of 12 creches teachers and teachers’  assistants including the primary school teachers from Neelbagh School attended the workshop m.

This year we have introduced the teachers to Phonetics. The teachers found it very interesting and knew that this method would make their teaching simple, easy and fun for children to understand. Also the teachers were taught new English and Kannada rhymes and methods of story telling
