This project will empower youth living in high crime communities with foundational digital literacy skills, focusing on digital collaboration, design, and basic web development for effectively use and understand digital platforms for academic, personal, and future professional purposes. This will allow participants to be equipped with monetizable skills that can enhance their resumes and build a project portfolio for success in a tech-driven culture instead of a life of crime and poverty.
The city of Memphis is home to the world's largest supercomputer. Yet it has underrepresented communities with roadblocks to success in the technology industry. Youth occupy a much of their time on the internet as gamers, social seekers, and consumers. They have limited knowledge of how to make positive use of the space as business owners and positive influencers. They lack the structured knowledge and resources to transform these hobbies into marketable skills.
Accent Bootcamp offers pathways for talented youth to create opportunities for education and careers. This project will accelerate the economy and create diversity in the tech workspace. The bootcamp can foster long term partnerships between educational institutions, businesses, and government entities. These networks can support ongoing initiatives and new projects, ensuring sustainable impact.
The project will educate youth allowing them to rise out of poverty. The social impact will allow youth the chance to gain meaningful entrepreneurial opportunities and decrease their likelihood of criminal activities. They will become role models for their peers and a ripple effect for others to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. This leads to stronger community bonds and collective efforts to sustain and build upon the progress made. The bootcamp bridges the digital divide.
