This morning, American Humane Association wired $10,000 in cash and shipped a load of critically needed animal sheltering supplies to support local animal relief efforts in Japan.
These initial actions provide direct assistance to the Japan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) and the Japan Animal Welfare Society (JAWS) — two local organizations that are helping provide shelter to animals that were displaced by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear emergency affecting the country.
Along with the Japan Pet Care Association and the Japan Veterinary Medical Association, these organizations have formed the Headquarters for the Relief of Animals in Emergencies for the purpose of transporting rescue supplies, providing financial support, and meeting the animal response requests in local areas impacted by the disasters.
In addition, our Red Star Animal Emergency Services™ team continues to work closely with our national and international partners to finalize plans to provide animal relief support in Japan.
As we make progress in supporting the efforts in Japan, I’d like to thank all our generous donors who have contributed to our Japan relief fund and everyone who has contacted us to offer their help, concern and prayers for the people and animals affected by this tragedy.
We appreciate your ongoing support, and we share your deep concern for the people and animals of Japan.
