This initiative looks to provide healthy nutrition to around 300 children under 6 years old that live in poor neighborhoods (La Cruz and La Honda) in Medellin, Colombia. It will give them and their families nutritional packages, during the school break and at the end of the year, considering that children's nutrition does not take vacations and that it is necessary to provide them with adequate nutritional requirements until they return to classes.
Currently in Colombia, most of the comprehensive care programs for poor and vulnerable children under 6 years old (early childhood), including nutritional ones, are subject to the funding of government. This funding only covers about 11 months of the year leaving their nutrition uncovered for one month. This exposes them to the risk of losing the weight and height gained during the rest of the year due to the lack of proper or minimum nutritional requirements that they receive.
Provide nutritional packages to poor and vulnerable children and their families looking to maintain (and improve) their weight and height gained during the school period, and simultaneously educate their families in how to give to their children healthy nutrition with a basic low cost food basket provided to them; and educate children regarding healthy habits and good nutrition.
Provide the required nutrition for one month (school break) to approximately 300 poor and vulnerable children under 6 years old from families affected by Colombian conflict and violence, through a nutritional program that contributes to maintain the weight and height indexes gained during the school year. Also, this initiative will support poor and vulnerable families that do not have the economic resources for purchasing a proper food basket to give their children sufficient and adequate food.
