Riley Orton Foundation exists to empower girls to reach their full potential by providing sustainable, affordable and accessible quality Christian education to needy girls in Kisumu County, Kenya. This project builds a new Akili Preparatory School Campus for 60 girls in Kisumu to meet the girls' educational, nutritional and medical support needs in a safe environment where they can thrive and break the cycle of poverty. The girls will be fully sponsored through education and fed 3 meals daily.
Lack of food, proper sanitation facilities, school fees and high death rates from HIV/AIDS coupled with the burden of raising orphaned children are some of the hardships women in Obunga slum face every day. Despite the governments initiative to make primary education free, many children especially girls of school going age remain out of school due to inhibitory costs for tuition, buying stationery and school uniforms. This project will provide free education and meals to 60needy girls in Kisumu
The strategy we have adopted to provide quality education to these girls is through the establishment of a boarding school known as Akili Girls Preparatory School which will provide holistic education that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of the girls while creating dignity through self-reliance. The 60 girls will get free education, meals and medication. Food from our Akili sustainable farm will be used to feed the girls sustainably without relying on outside support in future.
Our goal is to generate sufficient income through focussing on horticulture, poultry, dairy cows, and renewable energy systems to meet educational, nutritional and medical support needs of the girls. This project aims to support over 200 orphans and vulnerable girls by the year 2020 as the school expands to the next class yearly. The primary target group are girls from the lowest income populations, particularly those who are affected by the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Obunga slum and Obambo village
